a deeper dive
★ education & career: i have spent what is likely an ill-advised amount of time in school. i graduated with a B.A. in psychology with a minor in fashion (garment design and construction), entered the workforce, and then returned to school years later where i earned my B.S. in speech-language pathology. i then attended graduate school and graduated with an M.S. in speech-language pathology. i am a credentialed and licensed speech-language pathologist with both medical and educational experience. currently, i work in a school district providing therapy services to students with extensive support needs. i provide neurodiverse-affirming therapy and provide my students with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate a neurotypical world without masking, increasing their self-advocacy while encouraging their authentic selves. i teach that all forms of communication are valid and encourage students to communicate in whichever means are most comfortable and desirable for them, while teaching them how to repair conversational breakdowns with alternative modes of communication.★ identity: i am queer, indigenous, neurodiverse, and chronically ill. i was diagnosed with OCD in high school, and identified as a student with ADHD in elementary school. my family also has a history of autism, although i have not been diagnosed. i am also on the hypermobile spectrum and deal with varying levels of pain on a daily basis from loose ligaments, subluxed joints, and muscle fatigue. all of this informs my career and my everyday life.
★ political & social views: i generally follow the philosophy of "let people do what they want, as long as it's not hurting anyone", with the caveat of "feeling uncomfortable" or "not liking something" are not harm. people are allowed to create and engage with whatever media they choose as long as real people are not being actually exploited for it. so i don't give a damn about what people ship or the shows they watch! i have my own opinions and standards for the media i consume, engage critically with it, and i realize that the media i enjoy is not a reflection of who i am at my core. this extends to non-media topics as well of course; people should be able to consensually engage in the lifestyles they choose, and identify how they choose, even if i don't understand it.
politically, i am anti-capitalist, i believe settler-colonial states should be abolished (yes, including the United States and Canada), all cops are bastards, there is no ethical billionaire, and that people matter more than property, profits, or borders. i am pro-social/community supports, believe in harm reduction practices and social equity, and support the land back movement.
★ hobbies: my primary hobbies are building lego sets (which i also incorporate into my therapy), going to renaissance faires, tabletop rpgs, and larp! i also used to cosplay a lot back in the day, and have been getting back into it more lately. garment sewing is a big part of my hobbies; i made all my cosplays from scratch, and i enjoy making larp garb for myself. i enjoy injecting bits of my culture into the larp games i play in (famously a white/european-dominated space), and i am fortunate enough to play exclusively in games run by other indigenous and latine individuals. i also enjoy cooking and collecting cookbooks, and i wish i had more time to experiment with cooking!
